The 411 on Egg Freezing

Life is a series of events and timelines that change and flow naturally as you age. These time periods are heavily influenced by our personal decisions like schooling, career path, and family planning. For some the decisions are easy, they have a clear plan for what they want to do and at what age they want to achieve it, but for others, the plan evolves at a more progressive and free pace.

Family planning is one of the largest stepping stones in life and one that you personally may not be ready to jump into just yet. In the past few decades, there’s been a major shift in the age range in which people are deciding to have children. While deciding to wait for kids isn’t an issue socially, for some it can be an issue physically.

Ever heard of the “biological clock?” If you’re a woman in your early twenties to mid-thirties, your doctor, mother, or friends have probably used this term around you when bringing up kids. And unfortunately, the biological clock talk generally comes with a lot of pressure to conceive earlier than most women are ready. Although most aren’t wrong that your fertility is always declining as you age, most dramatically after 35, it is not inherently impossible to conceive after that age as most people think.

As women age, the quantity and quality of eggs decline each year, most dramatically declining after the age of 35. By the age of 40, women have only a 5% chance of conceiving.  Because of this, more and more women are moving forward with the elective egg freezing process – which freezes eggs in their peak fertile state, for a better chance of conceiving later in life.

Why would someone consider egg freezing?

  • They are not ready to start a family (but plan to later)
  • Personal reasons that delay childbearing (school, work, romantic)
  • Surgical/Medical procedures that may delay family planning (chemotherapy)

How does the process work?

SOYO is your go-to resource for egg freezing. With decades of experience under our belts and a team of highly skilled professionals, your egg freezing cycle is in good hands.

Step 1: Consultation

We start with a one-hour consultation at our facility or virtually that includes an in-depth discussion of your needs and expectations. We also conduct initial blood work and a vaginal ultrasound to check ovarian reserve.

Step 3: Start Medication and Cycle

Ovarian stimulation – is an eight to twelve-day process that involves minimal fertility injections and oral medications in order to produce multiple mature eggs for retrieval.

Step 4: Egg retrieval

A minor outpatient surgery where we retrieve the mature eggs from your ovaries. This is minimally invasive and generally pain-free.

Step 5: Vitrification

AKA freezing! Your eggs are taken to our lab (in the same building) and placed in a “vitrification solution” called cryoprotectant, which protects the eggs during the freezing and thawing process.

Step 6: Store and Save for later

The eggs are carefully placed into liquid nitrogen and stored until you wish to conceive!

Egg freezing is an amazing process that makes it possible to extend your biological clock and gives women a chance to have children when the right time presents itself. Give yourself peace of mind and options to build your future family so you can focus on your health, work, or life as you want.
